The WHAT of productivity

Productivity is mainly what you do with your time. And yes, it’s also how you do any
task. But for now, let’s not focus on the how (which is about doing a given task more
efficiently). The what is clearly more important and more interesting.

Highly productive people spend their time in alignment with their goals. It’s as simple as
that. See it’s a cliche but I’ll say it anyway – we all get the same amount of time to spend
(or waste, as the case may be :)). So, it cannot be a case of someone having more time
or less time. It has to be about the choices we make regarding how to spend the time.

If you know your goals, or if you know where you are headed, that’ll give you the list of
tasks that are in alignment with your goals and you can be productive if you work on
those tasks. As an example, if you want to be a good parent, you know that you need to
spend time with your kid(s). So, any time spent with your kid(s) is productive for you.
Another example would be if you intend to watch TV for a few hours and sit and watch
TV, then you are productive, as the activity aligned with your goal/intention.

If you don’t know what your goal is or what you want to accomplish, then there is no
question of productivity or wasting time, it’s all the same to you.
